It’s been a minute. April has ended and March 2020 is here. In the same way that many in amidst of much of the sad news out there have forgotten that the year is going; some may have also forgotten that Afrocentric and Africa-related Job Vacancies are still trending – many of them their deadlines extended! Yes some adverts have been cancelled; but some have had deadlines re-extended.

Below are the latest African-related job listings that are currently live in London at the moment. Applications are invited for a Research Fellow on the GCRF Protracted Displacement project. The project aims to improve healthcare at the intersection of gender and protracted displacement amongst Somali and Congolese internally displaced people (IDPs) and Somali and Congolese refugees in Nairobi and Johannesburg. You will be based at the University of Edinburgh, but you will also collaborate closely with our partner research teams in Somalia, Eastern DRC, Kenya, and South Africa.

This post will be based in the Social Anthropology Subject Area and the Centre of African Studies within the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh. The role will entail international travel to some or all project field sites in Somalia, Kenya, DRC, and South Africa.

The Research officer will be expected to embed themselves in the intellectual life of the School, building and maintaining links with LSE scholars while developing their research and publishing. The position offers an opportunity for a motivated researcher to develop their research career focused on processes of social change as it applies to youth, women, and children in Africa focusing on areas such as livelihoods and the informal economy; migration; gender dynamics and sexuality; popular culture; humanitarian crises; and political engagement and social movements. The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Anthropology, Sociology, Geography, International Development, International Relations, Political Science, Social Policy or related social science discipline with a focus on Africa. The candidate will have experience of conducting primary research in Africa and ideally have knowledge of/or fluency in an African language. The candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate research findings effectively to a wide range of audiences. The University of Portsmouth is looking for an exceptional candidate to join us as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow specialising in West African security. With support from established academics, you will be responsible for pursuing your own research agenda on West African Security, applying for research funding (both for group projects and individual funding) and promoting the University of Portsmouth at external events. You will be a British citizen, resident in the UK for five out of the last ten years immediately prior to your application.
