It’s been a minute. April has ended and March 2020 is here. Applications are invited for a Research Fellow on the GCRF Protracted Displacement project. The project aims to improve healthcare at the intersection of gender and protracted displacement amongst Somali and Congolese internally displaced people (IDPs) and Somali and Congolese refugees in Nairobi and Johannesburg. 3) RESEARCH OFFICER: FIROZ LALIJI CENTRE FOR AFRICA
The Research officer will be expected to embed themselves in the intellectual life of the School, building and maintaining links with LSE scholars while developing their research and publishing. The position offers an opportunity for a motivated researcher to develop their research career focused on processes of social change as it applies to youth, women, and children in Africa focusing on areas such as livelihoods and the informal economy; migration; gender dynamics and sexuality; popular culture; humanitarian crises; and political engagement and social movements. The research officer will be expected and supported to apply for research grants, where possible, and collaborate with academic colleagues on larger grant proposals.
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Anthropology, Sociology, Geography, International Development, International Relations, Political Science, Social Policy or related social science discipline with a focus on Africa. You will be a British citizen, resident in the UK for five out of the last ten years immediately prior to your application. Please note: at least one year of this must have been a consecutive twelve month period, unless you have served overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of Her Majesty’s Government, or have lived overseas as a result of your parent’s or partner’s Government employment.
