Jollof Cuisine: Progressive, West African Cooking.

Culturally rich West African Cuisine Bars in Central London based Restaurant are few and far between – and that’s exactly what co-founders Iré Hassan-Odukale and Jeremy Chan aim to achieve and expand upon. Ikoyi will offer a unique take on West African cuisine, with Head Chef Jeremy bringing his fine dining experience from restaurants such as Dinner and Noma to create highly skilled dishes.

“The menu will take a three course format, with Jeremy using innovative cooking techniques and modern presentation to interpret West African food. Starters will see high quality produce combined with West African seasoning to create dishes such as Rare Breed Lamb Ribs with Asun Relish (£7.5), and Octopus Pepper Soup with Coastal Herbs (£11). Main courses will showcase carefully selected meat and authentic flavours, with dishes including Wild Nigerian Tiger Prawn, with Banga Bisque and Corn Grits (£27), and Suya Blade of Beef, whilst sharing dishes will feature a Jollof rice with Smoked Bone Marrow and Groundnut Miso, Jeremy’s take on the iconic rice dish famed across West Africa. Working with Aubrey Allen and other specialist suppliers, Jeremy will source a unique breed of four-horned lamb, Manx Loaghtan and line caught fish to be cured and smoked.” (Source: Gerber)

Stories & Supper is a refugee supper club project based in Walthamstow which aims to challenge some of the myths surrounding the migration crisis. Refugee and non-refugee volunteers work in partnership to produce great food and inspiring stories.

‘I come from the growl of motorbikes through dusty streets/The smell of wild jasmine and petrol’

Stories & Supper are back with a second supper club, this time at Studio 3 Arts in Barking. Once again diners will be treated to a three-course meal, with a side order of stories which challenge the migration headlines.

Some of the treats we have in store for you:

  • Original poetry telling tales of home, guided by the amazing spoken word artist Joelle Taylor
  • Exquisite Afghan song from Abdul
  • A menu spanning Syria, Sudan and Afghanistan, as well as stories from around the world

Start with a welcome drink in the courtyard garden to whet your appetite for our Syrian starter. We will then be serving classic chick pea falafel alongside the sublime spiced red pepper dip muhammara and smokey aubergine dip baba ganoush. Then it’s on to the Sudanese main event. Let us introduce you to aseeda with a spicy peanut sauce, as well as Sudanese ‘canneloni’ – surely the ultimate fusion food. To finish, delight in our take on Shir Berenj – a fragrant Afghan rice pudding. All led by our talented refugee chefs.
